Book Review – Roommates from Manitoba

Piecing the Puzzle: The Genesis of AIDS Research in Africa; Larry Krotz; (2012)

Ultimate Health: Finding It; Clarence A Guenter; (2016)

It is sometimes useful to read two similar type books at the same time in order to contrast them and see different angles. This book review is part of a series looking at books in the technology, health services, and innovation domains.

The reason why I selected these books is because how they are related. Both books reach back over 50 years ago and have good insights into using data and how data should be questioned in healthcare.

Piecing the Puzzle is mainly the story of Dr. Allen Ronald, a Manitoba physician who worked extensively in Africa. Ultimate Health written by Clarence Guenter is an Alberta physician who and worked extensively in Asia. What is also special is that over 50 years ago they were medical student roommates at the University of Manitoba.
